Alfredo W. Forti
Alfredo W. Forti has decades of experience in international public affairs, including foreign and defense policy and human rights.
From 2007 to 2013, he served as Vice Minister of Defense for Argentina, where he led defense modernization reforms, negotiated agreements with 31 countries, oversaw Argentina’s participation in UN peacekeeping operations, and acted as Argentina’s Representative to the South American Defense Council. Forti was elected twice as Director of the South American Center for Strategic Defense Studies, a governmental think tank for the 12 South American Ministers of Defense.
In 2004 to 2007 Alfredo Forti was appointed Ambassador to Honduras, where he strengthened bilateral political relations and significantly increased Argentine exports and commercial and governmental cooperation programs. He has served as a Presidential Envoy for Argentina in several crises, including negotiating the recovery of a Navy Frigate from Ghana in 2012.
Forti was also Senior Advisor to UN Secretary-General António Guterres (2016-17), developing the current policy to address sexual exploitation and abuse by UN civilian and military personnel in field missions. He has also been a Special Advisor on defense and regional security to the Secretary General of the Organization of American States.
In private practice, Alfredo has advised several presidents and foreign ministers of Central and South American countries on strategic and foreign policy matters. He also served as an international policy advisor in three successful presidential campaigns and has advised corporate clients extensively throughout Latin America on crisis management, strategic associations, and market entry.
A prominent figure in Latin American human rights, Forti has worked for the governments of Haiti, Peru, Honduras, and Guatemala on the design and establishment of Truth Commissions to address past violations in those countries.
Forti holds a Master’s in Public Administration from Harvard University and a BA in International Relations from The American University, Washington DC.
